Additional Property Attributes

The former First Presbyterian Church was vacant placed up for sale in January 2012. In the summer of 2012, Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center has targeted the building and nearby parking lot for acquisition. Since 1884, the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center has been a source of music for the residents of northern Illinois. Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is the home of the Rock Valley Children's Choir, the Mendelssohn Chorale and Kantorei, The Boy Singers of Rockford. The Phase I was completed on behalf of Mendelssohn to evaluate the property for RECs and to establish environmental liability protections. The favorable results of the Phase I allowed Mendelssohn to purchase the properties and relocate their community oriented operations there. Mendelssohn continued to operate the entire property until July of 2020 when operations were consolidated into a nearby building. The former First Presbyterian Church building is currently for sale and awaiting reuse.
