Additional Property Attributes

The Property at 315 Main Street is developed with a two-story adobe building that has been remodeled and reconstructed with a fae believed to be made of concrete. This building was used from at least 1926 until 2020 as a laundry or a laundry and a dry cleaner. It is believed that the first floor of the building was used for laundry and dry cleaning operations and that the second floor were living quarters and offices. During its early years of operation historical records indicate that the business most likely used carbon tetrachloride as a cleaning solvent. Later, the business switched to tetrachloroethylene which is also called perchloroethylene, PCE or PERC. It is a known human carcinogen that is persistent (does not easily degrade) in the environment and is very mobile in groundwater.
Before 1926 the building at the Property was used for a boot & shoe shop, a saloon and a fruit store (1883), a millinery and a drug store (1886), a restaurant, a bicycle shop, and a barber shop (1895), a saloon, a bicycle shop, and a billiards hall (1901), and a Salvation Army facility (1908), and a second hand shop and a billiards hall (1908 and 1914). At least three times, in 1886, 1890 and 1914 the building was partially vacant. In 1926, 315 Main Street was used for a laundry and the east adjoining building at 317 and 319 Main Street was used by an automobile garage with a gasoline tank. Later the garage space was used for the dry cleaning portion of the business. Historical records indicate that the building was present and the Property developed at least as early as 1883 although the Fremont County Assessor website indicates that the building was constructed in 1874. The east adjoining property is a vacant commercial property. The west adjoining property is a gym. The north adjoining property is an alley followed by an unpaved parking lot (316 Macon Avenue). The south adjoining property is Main Street and south of this, several commercial businesses.
