Additional Property Attributes

The Toole Avenue Parking Lot occupies approximately 1.36 acres in the northwest portion of a 4.43-acre parcel. The parcel was used as a passenger depot previously owned and operated by Southern Pacific Transportation Company beginning in the 1880s until it merged with Union Pacific Railroad in 1996. Union Pacific Railroad sold the parcel to the City of Tucson in 1998. Amtrak currently operates a passenger terminal southeast of the Toole Lot. The Site is currently utilized as a parking lot. Historical operations at the Site include the following: hardware and machinery retailer, oil warehouse with an oil aboveground storage tank, bottling works facility, ice-house, railroad tool house, stables and servant quarters for an adjacent hotel. All the structures were removed prior to 1909 and the lot was used as a park and rail spur. The historical layout of the site is presented on Figure 3. The lot has been used for parking since at least 1968. A diesel fueling station was located near the northwest corner of the Site from 1965 to 1984. Planned mixed-use redevelopment includes retail, parking, and residential use.
