Additional Property Attributes

The Longacre Property has long been a priority for redevelopment for the City of Smithers. It is located within City limits. It is currently being used as a staging area for power line replacement, but prior to approximately 2019, it had been vacant since the 1970s. There was a coal town with approximately 150 houses on the site until the remaining structures were removed in the 1970s. The property was used for coal processing and included multiple coke ovens. The coke ovens are shown on historic topographic maps from the early 1900s until the 1930s. However, there is no surface evidence of the coal processing remaining on the property. The City would like to purchase the property and redevelop it into an RV campground.
