Additional Property Attributes

The site is located on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation in Buffalo County, South Dakota. The site is in Section 14, Township 107 N, Range 72 W, in Fort Thompson, Buffalo County, South Dakota. The site comprises an approximately 4.5-acre section within the reservation consisting primarily of overgrown, vegetated land, formerly occupied by an auto mechanic shop (Figure 2). The active Crow Creek Gravel Pit is located to the south-southwest of the site. Land use to the north, east, and west is agricultural. The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe requested the Phase 2 ESA in this area because they plan to expand gravel pit operations into the area of investigation and are concerned about the potential presence and contents of buried containers. The site is currently vacant. Surface cover at the site primarily consists of grassland. A concrete pad measuring approximately 30 feet long and 20 feet wide is located centrally near the eastern border of the site. A pile of gravel is located near the southern border of the site. A flattened soil pile constructed of native soil is in the northwest corner of the site. Observations during the Phase II ESA indicate the site has been used as an un-licensed dump site. Debris including an above ground storage tank (AST), tire rims, scrap metal, refuse, rebar, and concrete are scattered across the surface of the Site. One 55-gallon open top steel drum was discovered buried on the site west-southwest of the concrete pad
