Additional Property Attributes

The Mariposa-Miller Gulch property is located on the northern banks of the Merced River amidst hundreds of thousands of acres of federally managed public land. The river in this section is designated by Congress as "wild and scenic." Located in a historically significant site for local and regional indigenous communities, the property formerly contained a limestone mine and cement plant, and was serviced by the Yosemite Valley Railroad from 1907 to 1945. Remnants from this former use were damaged or destroyed in the 2018 Ferguson Fire. The Mariposa County Planning Department plans to reuse the property as a public access area as part of the Merced River Trail. The county is also looking for opportunities to incorporate wildfire response features into the reuse.
