Additional Property Attributes

Hempstead Park is a 0.6 acre former industrial site located in a residential neighborhood. Based on extensive past industrial use/development operating as a canning factory, silk company, and a dry cleaner and laundry, a Phase II environmental site assessment was necessary to characterize the groundwater and soils. An underground storage tank was also recently discovered that had not been reported in the 2001 environmental investigation. The site is currently vacant and consists mainly of grassy areas with debris located in the northern corner. Gravel, brick, and cement fragments are comingled in the topsoil in the northeast portion of the site. A fence is present and the site topography slopes to the south/southeast. The intended reuse of the site will be a neighborhood park, providing more green space, a safe area for children to play, and improve the quality of life in this residential, largely environmental justice community.
