Additional Property Attributes

Over time the Old Barge Landing has been used as an unauthorized dumpsite. The site had approximately 90-100 55-gallon drums with unknown contents, 10 abandoned vehicles, white goods, and random construction materials. It has become a community dump that continues to grow, with stained soil indicating leaking drums. The site is directly under the flight path of the airport. In 2002 the State of Alaska conveyed the land to the City of Huslia as part of the City taking over the operations of the airport. Residents understand that this is where to take junk cars, 55-gallon drums of used oil, or other hazardous materials, as they believe it will eventually be back-hauled. In the past there used to be a backhaul program. It is no longer running but the material is still being dumbed here. In 2019 someone from upriver brought a bunch of barrels to the old barge landing believed to be an old military site. The community would like to repurpose this site into a recycling and staging area. To do so it needs to be cleaned up from junk and potential contamination. YRITWC would like to perform a phase I assessment to determine if contamination is likely to present and if a Phase II assessment is necessary. In addition to the phase I assessment the drums with unknown liquids need to be assessed for hazardous materials.
