Additional Property Attributes

The property's date of acquisition by Esmeralda County is unknown. However, the property is believed to have been a Babbitt house built in the 1940's for civil service workers during World War II and donated to the town in the mid-1970s. Esmeralda County Commissioner's Office began facilitating renovation of the Silver Peak Community Center; therefore, an asbestos and lead-based paint survey was necessary to determine whether abatement was required to allow for safe renovation. The renovation project was halted for reasons unknown; however, in January 2023, part of the building's roof unexpectedly collapsed after a series of heavy precipitation events. Suddenly, the community center was in need of urgent repairs. The asbestos survey report had identified asbestos in the texture and joint compound associated with the drywall ceiling system throughout the community center; therefore, removal of the asbestos containing drywall ceiling system throughout the community center was performed. Abatement of the asbestos-containing drywall ceiling system allowed for a safe roof/ceiling repair.
