Additional Property Attributes

VOC chemical plume from former Ashland Chemical Distribution facility has migrated under western portion of property. Ashland closed a former water supply well that was impacted with elevated concentrations of VOCs in 2000. NC DENR issed an order to site owner to allow access for the well closure. Regulatory status of case is closed. The current owner, Mt Peace Baptist Church, elected to not pursue a Brownfields Agreement for redevelopment or to allow onsite work beyond the Phase II assessment.

Former Use: The property has historically been used for the sales and service of farm equipment and included a wash rack area and a painting room. A former gasoline UST was reportedly removed from the property in 1988 and a heating oil UST may remain at the property. A former on-site water supply well was found to be significantly contaminated by the migration of chlorinated and non-chlorinated solvents onto the property from the adjacent Ashland Chemical property located just west. Storage of oil waste and some areas of surface soil staining, along with dumping of old paint and other containers, are noted on the property.
