Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The property originally was developed for railroad yard use prior to 1920. Two railroad tracks curved across the northern two-thirds of the property; associated railroad buildings were also apparent. Based on review of reverse city directories and Sanborn fire insurance maps, Empire Fuel Co./Concord Empire Coal & Oil yards appeared to have occupied the property from 1933 to 1950. The southern one-third of the property consisted of vacant land with evidence of surface disturbances through 1970. Additionally, based on the property's location near the floodplain of the Mississippi River, the potential exists for this area to have been filled prior to development. The entire property was redeveloped for use as a lumber yard by 1956; historically occupants consisted of Johnson Cashway Lumber, Payless Cashway Lumber Store, Interstate Lumber, Home Lumber, and Stock Building Supplies.
