Additional Property Attributes

This property located at the intersection of Indiana and Main Street, does not have a tremendous amount of redevelopment potential. However, the property is currently vacant and underutilized for additional assessment and necessary remediation activities the property may be redeveloped as a community greenspace, or offered as a donation to the adjoining property owners.

Former Use: The City of Elkhart acquired the property through eminent domain in 2003 for the Indiana Avenue Railroad Underpass Project. The City demolished the building at the site and it has been vacant land since. The property was previously used as an auto dealership. City Directories indicate that the property was a car dealership from approximately the 1960s until 2003. Sanborn maps indicate that the property was used as a gasoline station in 1927 and 1950.
