Additional Property Attributes

The 1913 Post Office Building was originally constructed in the early 20th century as a post office, but was later used as a federal building and community college for the City of North Platte. The site is on the National Register of Historic Places. A lead-based paint survey was conducted, and building materials coated with lead-based paint were identified so building renovations could be completed safely according to OSHA standards. Contaminants in groundwater that may have originated from off-site sources were minimal and did not pose a risk to occupants at the site. (Site within PCE/TCE plume boundary of River Valley Groundwater Contamination Superfund site, adjacent to Detco II LUST Priority List orphan site, nearby drycleaner, railway, service stations, industry.) Former Use: UPRR (-1860); Woodhurst and/or Cole (1860-1909); USA (1909-1964); Jr. College Dist. No. 1 or Mid-Plans Community College (1964-2000); Sixth Demension LLC (2000-2001). The site was purchased by the Creativity Unlimited Arts Council and today serves as the Prairie Arts Center.
