Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Property is currently vacant and includes approximately one acre that was formerly used for a gasoline/diesel service station, one acre that was a former residence, and 9 acres of mostly wooded greenspace. All above-ground structures have been removed from the Property, but the former underground storage tank (UST) system remains in place. The USTs contain some water but appear to be empty of fuel. A septic system and at least one well remain on the Property. Between 1946 and 1989 ownership of the Property transferred 13 times. The main retail building for the gasoline/diesel service station was constructed in 1958. A tornado destroyed the service station in 1993, and the owner/operator (Mr. William Sparks) could not afford to rebuild the station or close the UST system. The Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR) has inspected the former facility several times and issued Mr. Sparks numerous violations that were never addressed. BUSTR presently considers former station to be an orphaned site. The Property is located in a primarily mixed land use area that includes agricultural and residential properties. The adjacent properties include: an agricultural field to the north, a residence to the east; U.S. Route 40 and an agricultural field and residence to the south, and a wooded parcel and agricultural fields to the west.
