The subject property includes an approximately 0.5-acre lot in an irregular shape that is bounded by Cypress Street to the east, Bridge Street to the north, and Mill Street to the south in the city of West Monroe, Louisiana. Improvements to the site include two single-story office structures and one garage with two bay doors near the southwestern corner of the property. The property also includes a gravel area to the north and east of the structures for parking of vehicles. The earliest available record of the subject property dates back to the 1890 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map that illustrates the site as a vacant lot. The Sanborn map from 1926 illustrates the subject property with residences at 503 and 505 Cypress Street. The 1932 fire insurance map includes a commercial building on the southern portion of the site at 501 Cypress Street. The structure on the southern portion of the site was identified as a dry cleaner in the 1950 fire insurance map and was listed Delta Dry Cleaner from 1964 to 1976 and as vacant in 1981 in city directories. Ms. Mary Hutson stated that the Hutson family purchased the structure at 501 Cypress Street in 1984 as a vacant structure, later leasing it a vinyl siding and clothing retailers. The structure at 501 Cypress Street was removed in 2017. The northern portion of the site was first listed as Hutson Car Lot in the 1964 City Directory. Ms. Mary Hutson stated that the northern portion of the site was first leased to the Hutson family in 1950 as a used car lot, purchase in 1983, and closed in 2019. The site has been vacant for approximately one year.
